Taking the Plunge

I believe Katie's exact words were "Let's never speak of this again." But technically, drawing isn't speaking, so...

On another note, this actually spanned a much longer period of time than this comic would have you believe. Which makes events depicted in the last panel that much more epic.

Blast from the past

Several new comics are in the works, but I thought I'd post something that will hopefully keep you all smiling and satisfied: old graffitis from facebook!

BATMAN VS. HILARY
From back during the primaries, my pal Tessa's political views section on facebook said Batman/Robin '08. This is what I envisioned.

***

Nigel is really gullible. I was once telling him a story about my trip to England as a 3-year-old (the only story I actually remember) about getting custard, but then also about how there are hedgehogs all over England. Then I made some crack about how custard and hedgehogs are on the British flag after all, and he said, completely in earnest, "Really?" If I remember correctly, I laughed for a pretty long time.

***

A birthday card for Tessa.

***

A 21st birthday card for Shannon. She has a thing about moose. Ask her about it sometime, and she'll tell you a story that will only sort of make sense.

***

Some sentiment for Emily, upon the removal of her wisdom teeth.

***

Presented without context.

***

I'm really good at basketball. Wait, you didn't know that? Also: anyone remember this song?

***

The Hulk is a never-nude. No, really:

***

Oh, and this is from back in the day when Katie, Haley and I first became obsessed with "Buffy." Our love of David Boreanaz remains undiminished, but my ability to draw my roommates has significantly improved, if I do say so myself. I can't say much about my ability to draw Angel, however. But you can kinda see the resemblance, right? RIGHT?

***

Hope you all had fun taking this trip down memory lane with me!

January 28, 2010 B.C.

Hey old doodle! I found this in a long-forgotten notebook (is there anything better than finding things you'd forgotten about? like money in a coat pocket...or that necklace that you lost?)

I can't really explain this one. Draw your own conclusions.

À la Musée des Beaux Arts

So a few weeks ago I went to the Musée des Beaux Arts with Alex and his mom. We made many insightful observations. It was fun times. And there really is a painting that looks scarily like Rupert Grint.

Mother and son were wearing matching coats. It was pretty cute.

Note: I actually meant to post this some time ago, as per Alex's request, and then I forgot that I drew these. Whoops. On another note, I love meeting my friends' parents, more so in college (since I've known the parents of my friends from home since like, forever) because then you get to see from whence their quirks and verbal idiosyncrasies came. It's delightful.

Please

I could give you the context for this, but I almost just like it better as a stand-alone.

I really don't understand.

This may be in bad taste, since Liverpool is playing today, but I'm not going to bother looking up the score to see if Katie will in fact be drinking on the air mattress again tonight.

(Note: this happened last semester. There were tears. And beers.)

Take your cat, please!

Hey, so I'm in a Mammalian Evolution class now, which mostly means drawing pictures of skeletons (that, and learning fun facts to share with you, of course!) Did you know that cats don't have a clavicle? Well, you do now! And btw, that's a cervical vertebra that my professor is holding up in Panel 1.

I mostly thought what Professor Millien said was funny because I imagined her scolding someone, snapping, "Just take your cat and go someplace else!"--which, incidentally, is hard to imagine since she's just about the cutest person ever and the idea of her yelling at anyone, ever, is just preposterous, even though she claims "[she] can be rather French" if you interrupt her at the wrong time, whatever that means.

By the end of the semester I better be aces at drawing skeletons.

Save the Manatees

I wish I could explain what exactly is going on on this scrap of paper, but...alas, I cannot. You may be able to trace the pattern of our conversation from this, but it's not likely.

Haley is responsible for most of this, with some assistance from Nigel.

Think about it.

Hey! I forgot about this one. You can tell it's old because as depicted, Katie and I are still wearing our Fall coats. And oh yeah, we had this realization on our walk home one day. Maddening.

More comics are on their way!

Wednesday Night

A single lady goes to see "A Single Man."

She would like to recommend it to everybody.

We are really cool

And then we realized that we were chatting casually standing in our kitchen, holding our computers. Standing.

Thermoregulation

Seriously, this is one of the worst things about Montreal winters: cold, hot, cold, hot; street, metro, street, classroom; the constant taking off and putting on of various accessories. It is something I could do without.

Hyenas, I tell you.

I drew this at lunch today in the SSMU caf. Really, there is no excuse for laughing that loudly.

Best Pie EVER

Reblogged from Repulsive Interactions

So, I had a hand in the making of this pie, but the idea, design, and artistry were all Tessa. The choice of cherry filling made for a perfect bloody maw.

They ARE hard to draw

That's hemlock

Over winter break, my dad and I went on this nature walk in La Cañada where we learned about edible and inedible plants. And then made a salad! And then attempted to start a fire the old-fashioned way (and, in my case, failed to start a fire the old-fashioned way).

New Year's Resolution #9: Build a fire successfully.

And so it begins...

Science Carnival--Frosh's debauched older brother--started last night, and Katie, dressed like this, stopped by the kitchen to make this special announcement.

Her team is called Rambone, by the way.

Word Problem

Problem: It is January in Montreal, and Angela needs to get to class at the top of a hill.  However, it is very steep and covered in slush and ice. For every 3 steps Angela takes, she slides back 2. Assume that the hill is a right triangle with hypotenuse = 30 ft (9.144 m). Assume also each step = 1 ft (0.3048 m).

Question: How many steps will it take for Angela to reach the top of the hill?

And more importantly, will she make it to class on time?

On the second day of school...

I discovered, upon entering the bathroom (sorry Canadians--washroom), that my hair had become center-parted! The damage was already done, though: I'd been to two classes.

There is nothing worse than center-parted hair. Nothing.

American Thanksgiving '09

Ok, now I know what you're thinking: Snowmanta, isn't this a little overdue?

Why yes, it is. But, in my defense, I started it the day after Thanksgiving. That should count for something, yes? It was just a really busy time in my life: my sister was visiting, I had four papers to write, I was probably getting a cold (I was "getting a cold" all the way through the end of finals, though thankfully it never fully manifested itself). Yeah. Busy.

This comic--ridiculing Alex's tendency to repeat his stories, most notoriously this one--comes just in time for him to get back to Montreal today! You're welcome, Alex.

Thank gods Mary Claire has a giant map in her kitchen. It provided us with endless (and by 'endless' I mean like 10 minutes of) entertainment as we played "Pin the Tail on the Globe" and waited out the story we've heard--and questioned the veracity of--far too many times. That's my sister there on the left. Not a great drawing of her--the one in my Christmas comic is much better. Sorry, Diana. Also not a great drawing of the world. Sorry, world.

Happy Belated Thanksgiving '09, all! Or Happy Early Thanksgiving '10, from another perspective.

Armchair Biologists

Typical mother-daughter activity. Why, don't you do this with your mom?

Uncia uncia

My mom really liked this doodle. I don't think it looks much like a snow leopard, but whatever.

Omens

Saw Jake Gyllenhaal at the airport yesterday. Took it as a better omen for my safe travels than the picture frame I broke as I was leaving my apartment.

Placemat Drawings

Hey readers! Here's a guest submission from my pal Tessa, whose blog I check obsessively. You should too.

I was present for the drawing of this festive flamingo! We were in a sports bar (I know, WHAT?) in New York City, where we drank festive beer and drew on our placemats (paper placemats are the BEST!) and further prolonged our eventual foray back out into the FREEZING cold. No really, it was super-cold, and I know from cold, being a four-year Montreal resident and all. It may have had something to do with me not bringing weather-appropriate clothes though. It may have had everything to do with me not bringing weather-appropriate clothes. Because anywhere south of Canada should be warmer, right? Right??

She also drew this. It's gonna eachoo.

Merry Christmas from the Valley

Christmas Eve Day

While I was drawing this, my sister yelled from the other room, "Mom! Where are the scissors?!!"

Christmas Day

Our "traditional" Christmas breakfast is bagels, lox, and cream cheese.

My dad and I put in a word, or two.

A mistake.

What seven letters did my grandpa say when he opened up his Christmas present from my grandma?

Green Christmas
